I can’t believe I have never shared this recipe for easy homemade french bread with you.
It is one that I use every single week without fail. 2 loaves every Sunday for as long as I remember, and sometimes I make another two later in the week for sandwiches if needed. They tend to go fast around here. I’m pretty sure Stella could eat one all by herself, not that I blame her. Fresh bread is hard to resist.
Yeast dough tends to scare people off, but really, this homemade french bread could not be any easier.
With just a handful of ingredients you will have homemade french bread better than anything you could get at the store.

Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups very warm water
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 1 envelope active dry yeast
- 3 – 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- dissolve the honey in the warm water
- combine the yeast, 3 cups of flour and salt
- add the water, and stir – adding more flour if needed to create a soft, but not too sticky, ball of dough
- knead using the dough hook of a stand mixer or by hand on a well floured surface – about 5 minutes until you have a nice smooth ball of dough
- place the dough in a bowl, cover, and allow to rise 1 hour – until doubled in size
- divide the dough in half, and form each into a rectangle
- beginning with the long edge, roll each into a loaf, pinch the seams, and place seam side down on greased pizza stone or baking sheet
- cover and allow to rise 30 minutes
- heat the oven to 375 F
- just before baking, cut 4- 1/4 inch diagonal slits in the loaves
- bake at 375 degrees 20 – 25 minutes
- cool slightly before cutting
enjoy!
