slow cooker pumpkin chocolate cake
pumpkin chocolate cake
made in the slow cooker
makes any night a great night for dessert
so I told you how I have been addicted to using my slow cooker lately
Seriously, I use it at least three or four times a week.
but, I have never used it for a dessert.
I am SO late to that party it’s not even funny. Slow cooker cakes are ALL over the interweb.
What I was waiting for, I couldn’t tell you. I’ve got dozens of them pinned.
I’m not much of a cake girl. I cannot decorate to save my life. Layered cakes forget about it, my layers NEVER come out of the pans in one piece. Frosting is not something I enjoy making or eating, but a moist fudgy cake, topped with ice cream, well now that is an entirely different story. And seeing as how it is October, I went ahead and added pumpkin and a bit of spice. Pumpkin and chocolate make a delicious combination, and if you don’t trust me check out these brownies, or these , or these.
The beauty of this cake {at least for me} is that it doesn’t need to look pretty; take a big ‘ol scoop right out of the slow cooker, top with a big scoop of ice cream, and pour on the sauce.
Ingredients
- cake batter –
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla
- dry layer –
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup hot water
Instructions
- to make the cake batter layer combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt
- whisk together the milk, pumpkin, butter, and vanilla,
- stir the wet ingredients into the dry, and spread evenly on the bottom of your slow cooker
- whisk together the ingredients for the dry layer, and then stir in the hot water
- pour over the batter, and do not stir
- cover and cook on high 2 1/2 hours
Enjoy!

HI,
What size slow cooker did you use…. sorry if I missed it somewhere
I have a 7.5 qt.
thanks
it works best in a 3 qt, but I did use my 6.5 qt
I’m the same way Heather, I pin slow cooker dessert recipes all the time and then I never do it! This looks awesome. Your photos are so crisp!
wow, thanks so much karen ? glad to hear i’m not alone
This looks absolutely divine Heather! I love slow cooker cakes – you just dig in there and top with whipped cream or ice cream! Pinned ?
I think we are kindred souls. I keep seeing the slow cooker cakes and thinking I should try one. I never pinned one, till I pinned yours. I am not much of a cake decorator either. But this kind of reminds me of pudding cakes from my childhood. So because of your comments and the picture, when I try one of these babies it will be this recipe.
that is SO sweet! thanks Carol
I’m not a big cake decorator either. This is the type of cake I can get behind! Looks yummy and chocolaty!
thanks Laura
The last two ingredients on the dry layer do you not specify teaspoon or cup. Does anyone know? I would assume cup.
I cannot believe I never noticed that – it’s cup, and thank you I have updated the recipe
