Last month I shared this with Ruthie, but I LOVE it so much I am sharing it with you all today; aren’t you lucky ?
Today I am sharing with you one of my all time favorites, Poached Eggs, and even better than that, I have a fool proof method for making them. Are you ready…it’s the microwave.

you need a microwave safe tea cup and saucer

then you need to add 1/2 cup of water to the teacup

carefully crack the egg, and gently slide it into the cup
{you may not be able to tell my my girls lay the most gorgeous blue/green eggs}

cover the cup with the saucer and microwave on high 45 – 60 seconds
{I like a runny yoke so I go 45}

remove the egg using a slotted spoon, and ENJOY!
Can’t wait to try this… because we all need a perfectly poached egg! Thanks!
thanks Becky!
That is seriously a perfectly poached egg. I need this post badly.
thanks Jocelyn
This is brilliant Heather! I’ve always been intimidated to try making poached eggs because of the horror stories. Your microwave trick makes it sound much easier!
I love poached eggs, and this is a great trick when you are short on time

perfect. I used to do this years ago but not in the microwave but on the stove top. This looks perfect and I will try it tomorrow. I stopped at an Amish store a couple of weeks ago and they had some of those pretty blue and green eggs.

I just love those pretty eggs! hope you enjoy them
Tried this two nights in a row with supper, first put on a piece of bread with tomato sauce; second, put over an asian style vegetable stir-fry. Delicious; and pretty. did it for 49 seconds. My microwave is old. Thank you~
awesome! thanks for letting me know

thanks so much for sharing Carloline
This is a great tip! I just made a poached egg at work for my avocado toast. Can you say #saddeskbreakfast life changing?! I did find that it was harder to get my white to set so after about 45 sec (weak work microwave) I pulled the cup out and gently turned it in the water so the runny white on the bottom set more for the last little bit of cooking. ?
thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it, we love our poached eggs
Ok….I am dying to ask …WHY do your hens lay blue/green eggs? This is awesome to me. Is it their breed, or something in their feed? I have been told if you feed hens marigolds the yolks are a brilliant yellow (and the meat can “golden up”, too.) The shells are so pretty!
it is their breed, and they are by far my favorite, and yes the yolks can be so very golden if they roam free and eat what they are supposed to in place of “feed” in a bag
Do u use cold water or boiled water?
I just used tap water – not too cold
I tried it and the whites didnt really cook and the yolk was as cooked as a hardboiled egg. Is there a particular size mug you should use? I used a pretty small mug where after the water and egg were in, it was filled until about half an inch.
I used a small tea cup, but you want to make sure it is microwave safe, or the cup will take most of the heat, did you cover the cup with a saucer or smal plate?
Hot or cold water?
i just use tap water, room temperature
I’ve seen egg yolks explode in the microwave…is there a trick to prevent this?
make sure your egg is completely submerged in the water

I have no way of getting fresh eggs. I have to use store bought. Will it still work?
they should be fine
How do you get the whole egg to stay together? Mine always seems to fall apart so when I’m all done I have basically the yolk and a little white left
i use a small tea cup- that is microwave safe – and my egg stays together quite well – make sure it is completely covered with water

Does the wattage of your even matter?
yes it does, every microwave works differently, and this will have an impact on the time needed
