Homemade Hot Fudge {two ways}

This past weekend was ALL about the ice cream. It has been extremely hot here, and nothing beats the heat better than ice cream. To make things interesting, we had a fun family sundae building competition.
Have you voted for your favorite yet?
On Saturday I got busy making all of the sauces that we would be using.
Everyone’s favorite….
hot fudge
I happen to prefer caramel or butterscotch, but homemade hot fudge really is good.
It was so good that I decided to make two batches,
one plain that we would use for sundaes
and one mint
{you can see what I did with that one soon}
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup agave
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup of dark chocolate {chunks or chips}
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tsp vanilla {or 1 tsp mint}
- 1/2 tsp seasalt
Instructions
- in a medium saucepan combine the cream, agave, sugar, cocoa powder, and 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips
- whisk together and bring to a boil
- reduce the heat and simmer {stirring occasionally} for 5 minutes
- remove from the heat and whisk in the butter, remaining chocolate, salt, and vanilla {or mint}
- the sauce will thicken quite a bit while cooling
Sometimes you just have to have a hot fudge sundae for dinner,
or in my case a hot fudge, butterscotch,caramelized banana sundae:)
Enjoy!
Dear Heather,
I agree. I could have this for dinner too…what else would you need?!
I know my daughter would love to make this. I’ll be sure to pass it on to her. Have a fun and safe July 4th. Blessings, Catherine xo
not much at all ? thanks Catherine – have a wonderful holiday
The fudge looks delicious! I would have never thought of using the Agave in it. I’m very interested to see how the fudge tastes with it in it.
the original uses corn syrup, but I try to avid that ..the agave didn’t add any unusual taste at all
Oh, I’m in love with this Heather. Get me a straw…
The mint was CRAZY good
I love ice cream but I could also drink this straight from the jar. Your photos are absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks so much! I think I actually like it without ice cream better:)
Yum! I need a hot fudge sauce for a recipe this week. Now I just have to make it dairy-free and I will be all set….Thank you! ?
I may try it with coconut cream and coconut oil –
I’m a caramel girl myself, But I could never say no to this hot fudge!
that’s how I felt – added with the caramel or butterscotch is REALLY good
I love hot fudge sundaes, totally trying this! Thanks for sharing ?
it is really so easy, I don’t think I’ll buy a jar of sauce again
